Sinnoh

the Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl companion

Every trainer, route, item and Pokémon — on one live map, checked against the sources. Built for Nuzlocke runs; useful for any run.

New here? Three steps.

  1. Log encounters in the as you play — each area only lists what you can actually catch there. Give it a nickname, mark its fate.
  2. Build your team on — pick from League favourites, type in your real levels and stats, paste a team from anywhere.
  3. Plan the fights — and show every trainer and Pokémon; tap any Pokémon for stats and moves, or hit Compare to put it next to yours. tells you which moves each Pokémon can be taught.

Everything saves in this browser only. Nothing is uploaded. Light theme is the default; Dark is in the header.

Battle Mule Strategy

A mule carries the team through mid-game, then gets benched before E4. It absorbs deaths your core team can't afford.

Nuzlocke logic: The mule is expendable. If it dies clearing a route, that's its job. Core members stay safe for E4 + Cynthia.

Medicham FightingPsychic

Bridge: Gym 2–4
  • Hi Jump Kick
  • Zen Headbutt
  • Thunder Punch
  • Drain Punch

Pure Power doubles Attack. Catches on Route 210 or 211 as Meditite. Handles Maylene, Crasher Wake, and mixed trainers on Routes 213–215.

Azumarill WaterFairy

  • Aqua Tail
  • Play Rough
  • Superpower
  • Aqua Jet

Huge Power doubles Attack (regular ability, 50% of wild Marill in both versions). Grand Underground (Marill). Fairy typing walls Spiritomb's Dark Pulse.

When to bench the mule

Before Victory Road. By this point your core team should be Lv 48–52 from forced Exp Share. The mule has absorbed the dangerous mid-game fights. It stays in the PC from Victory Road onward.

Garchomp Counter Strategies

Cynthia's Garchomp: Lv 66, Jolly, 52 HP / 252 Atk / 204 Spe, Yache Berry, Rough Skin. Swords Dance + Dragon Claw + Earthquake + Poison Jab.

Yache Berry halves the first Ice hit. You need to break the berry THEN kill, or OHKO through it.

Strategy 1: Weavile SD + Ice Shard

Highest success

Swords Dance on the turn Garchomp enters. At +2 Atk, Ice Shard (priority) deals ~55–65% through Yache. Garchomp's EQ or Dragon Claw won't OHKO Weavile at full HP. Second Ice Shard finishes.

Risk: Rough Skin chip + prior damage = Weavile can't survive. Must enter at 100%.

Strategy 2: Bronzong Iron Defense Wall

Safe / slow

Levitate makes Earthquake miss. Poison Jab doesn't hit Steel. Garchomp can only Dragon Claw you. Iron Defense x3 makes it deal single digits. Flash x6 drops accuracy to 33%. Chip with Gyro Ball.

Risk: Garchomp has Swords Dance. If it boosts before you Iron Defense, Dragon Claw still hurts. Open with Iron Defense turn 1.

Strategy 3: Mamoswine Double Ice Shard

Backup attacker

Ice Shard (priority, STAB) hits first. First Shard breaks Yache Berry (~35–40%). Mamoswine survives one EQ at full HP (110 base). Second Shard finishes (~35–40%, no Berry).

Risk: If Garchomp Swords Danced, EQ OHKOs Mamoswine. Only works on a fresh Garchomp.

Strategy 4: Gastrodon + Gyarados Relay

Team play

Lead Gastrodon: Ice Beam breaks Yache (~30–35%). Garchomp EQs but Gastrodon survives. Switch to Gyarados: Intimidate drops Atk. Ice Fang finishes (~40–50% without Berry). Dragon Dance variant: one DD up beforehand = Ice Fang OHKOs Berry-less Garchomp.

TM06 Toxic restriction (BDSP important)

TM06 Toxic is severely restricted in BDSP. Gastrodon, Bronzong, Blissey, Gyarados, Snorlax, Empoleon, Weavile, Staraptor cannot learn Toxic. Use Scald burn, Thunder Wave, or Hypnosis instead.

Rules & BDSP mechanics Nuzlocke

Key mechanics that affect Nuzlocke runs in Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl.

Core Mechanics

Exp Share: Always on, can't disable. Bench gets 50% exp. Overlevel risk is real — manage team size.
Friendship: Battle effects active (survive at 1 HP, self-cure status, crit boost). Community ruling: 73.6% say "survives as normal."
TMs: Single-use in both versions. Plan TM allocation before using them.
Fairy type: Exists in BDSP. Togekiss, Azumarill, Clefable all have Fairy.
Hidden abilities: Not obtainable in a main-story run in either version (they don't exist in Gen 4; BDSP needs the post-game Ability Patch). Team cards above cross them out.
Physical/Special split: Gen 4 introduced it. Every move is individually Physical or Special regardless of type. Both DP and BDSP have this.

Grand Underground

Access: Available after 1 badge (Explorer Kit from Eterna).
Hideaway levels: Scale with badge count, not National Dex.
Rare spawns: NOT National-Dex-gated. Gible, Togepi, Ralts etc. available pre-League.
Community encounter rule: One Underground encounter per gym badge (57/110 respondents).

Evolution Notes

Razor Claw (Weavile): Victory Road 1F. Post-gym 8 in both versions.
Razor Fang (Gliscor): Battle Park only — post-League. Gliscor not viable for main run.
Magnezone: Can evolve via Thunder Stone (no Mt. Coronet needed).
Mamoswine: Piloswine needs Ancient Power — it's a Lv 1 move. Use Move Reminder in Pastoria.
Feebas → Milotic: Beauty stat via Poffins, not trade. Tedious but possible.
Rotom: Post-National-Dex only. Not available for main run.

Data & Provenance

Loading live data…

Loading the audit…

Everything on the team and mule cards is fetched at view time from this site's API, which caches PokéAPI v2 in PostgreSQL on the origin host. Browsers only ever talk to sinnoh.dataross.com.

How version resolution works

Types: PokéAPI past_types tagged with the last generation they applied to — DP uses the Gen IV entry (Togekiss Normal/Flying), BDSP the current one.
Abilities: Hidden abilities are flagged and crossed out — none exist in Gen IV, and BDSP only grants them post-game via Ability Patch.
Moves: Power / accuracy / PP / type come from past_values for the selected version group (Knock Off is 20 BP in DP). A move introduced after Gen IV is crossed out for DP.
Learnability: Each recommended move is checked against the Pokémon's learnset for the version group (diamond-pearl or brilliant-diamond-shining-pearl); the tooltip shows the method and level.
Catch locations (DP): PokéAPI encounter records for Diamond and Pearl, walked up the evolution chain to the catchable stage. PokéAPI has no BDSP encounter table.
Not from PokéAPI: base stats are current-generation values (PokéAPI has no historical stat table); trainer rosters, items and strategy text are curated from Dittobase, the BDSP datamine, Bulbapedia, Serebii and Smogon.

I build and run infrastructure for a living and play Pokémon with friends on the side. This site started as a planning sheet for a Shining Pearl Nuzlocke and grew into a companion for the whole game: every trainer, route, item and Pokémon, checked against the sources, with a run tracker, a team builder and a battle engine that plays the League out turn by turn.

It is free and fan-made — not affiliated with Nintendo, The Pokémon Company or the sites it credits — and nothing you enter leaves your browser.

This is a free, fan-made companion for Nuzlocke runs, built as a joyful side-tool — not a competitor to, or replacement for, any of the sites below, which did the hard work. If something here is wrong, their pages are the place to check.

  • Nuzlocke Redux — Shining Pearl guide — the encounter-by-area tables the tracker is built from, and the design this site is a companion to. Use their tracker for the full experience.
  • PokéAPI — every sprite, base stat, type, ability and move value on this site, fetched live through this site's own cache.
  • Serebii — BDSP Gyms and Elite Four — gym leader, Elite Four and Champion teams.
  • Bulbapedia — gym trainers on the way to each leader, the cross-check for every leader's team, the BDSP TM list and per-move TM tables; trainer artwork via Bulbagarden Archives.
  • Serebii — BDSP TMs and PokémonDB — the second and third sources for every TM fact and every Pokémon-to-TM pairing; PokémonDB's Pokédex pages set the standard the Pokédex cards here follow.
  • Serebii — BDSP items (which items exist, where they are) and PokéAPI (what each one does, exactly) — the held-item picker on My Team.
  • Official game logos — Pokémon, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, Diamond Version and Pearl Version — are shown unmodified via Bulbagarden Archives so the games are recognisable at a glance; they are trademarks of Nintendo / Creatures Inc. / GAME FREAK inc. and imply no affiliation.
  • Official in-game icons — type labels and TM discs (via the PokéAPI sprites repository), the BDSP Physical / Special / Status move icons and the eight Sinnoh gym badges (via Bulbagarden Archives), and item sprites — are shipped with this site so it keeps working on its own; see icons/CREDITS.txt.

Independence: everything you see is served from this site — static data files built from the sources above, and a server-side cache of PokéAPI that is refreshed in the background and kept when the upstream is unreachable. No page here loads anything from another website.
